Posted on April 09, 2014 | 3 comments

I have just come back from a spectacular four days in Bendigo Victoria. Three of those days I was teaching my Screen Printing and Fabric Design Workshops hosted By Rosalyn Effenberg—who is lucky enough to have an entire cottage to craft in on Honeysuckle Street Bendigo. Yes and create we did.

A dawn start for me on the breathtaking Sydney Harbour.

Roz is a master with a hook and her crochet is amazing. She teaches classes weekly in her cottage.

At the end of my wonderful time in Bendigo right before Roz drove me to the train station I helped her to yarn bomb her Rav.

I think it looks amazing. Keep an eye out for it if you are in Bendigo.

Thanks to all who came along and made the Workshops in Bendigo such a memorable time for us all. A huge thanks to Roz who has a heart of gold and put together all three workshops for me.

Please contact Roz here for her craft groups, you will meet amazing people and have a ball.

Next stop for me is Margaret River.

Please do leave a comment. I love hearing from you.

Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably a day of colour workshop

Posted on February 19, 2014 | 1 comment

Yesterday I participated in Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably's colour workshop. It was an emotional day for me.

I had bought a Kaffe Fassett book on knitting when I was 18. The book taught me to knit—I knitted a jumper for my dad with about 20 or more different colours of yarn in it which I knitted together to make a splendid wool jumper. Dad wore the colourful jumper until it fell apart. I have been an admirer and follower of Kaffe Fassett for a long long time now.

Kaffe's latest book—Quilt Grandeur is my favourites of his books to date. I could quite happily sew every single one of the quilts in the book.

The workshop was based around his Pinwheel quilt from his latest book. It was such a good choice by Cottage Quiltworks. We explored the use of colour and pattern, paying attention to motives, scales and tones. It is also a great quilt design for using up small fabric pieces.  I wish I had taken a suit case of fabrics with me like so many others had. Here are some of my photographs from my day.

Below is the quilt top I put together in the workshop. I chose to create very viivd and contrasting pinwheels. I definitely was comfortable designing a quilt in this manner, cutting out the triangles and smoothing them onto a design wall. My triangles kept pealing off which you can see. We did not do any sewing on the day.

I am looking forward to sewing this together one day soon. At Kaffe's suggestion one fabric, the above in the middle, I will remover as it's tone is quite dark for this particular quilt. I will replace it with a bright coloured fabric. The quilt will also grow to be a lot bigger.

It was magical to watch everyone piece together their quilts on their design walls. Kaffe and Brandon were amazing at making suggestions and explaining peoples colour styles. He loved everything that was created and was humble and encouraging, he certainly is a gifted teacher. What a human being.

Brandon was jolly and energetic—we had a a good giggle over his amazing fabrics.

A special and rewarding day for all involved.

I am teaching at Cottage Quiltworks this weekend and again in May. If you fancy coming along please contact them here to book your spot.

Workshops for late Summer and Autumn 2014

Posted on January 28, 2014 | 3 comments

Last July on a chilly winters day I was at the ABCD meet up chatting to a friend and she asked me what my plans were for 2014? Ahrr my brain did a bit of a spin and quite honestly I replied to her that I wanted to travel around Australia teaching as I go—surprising myself at the thought.

Traveling, meeting new people and seeing the beauty of Australia are so satisfying for me and adventure is something that I needed in my life. I really did want to be out in the world teaching, sharing what I have learnt and meet people, inspiring them and have the joy to be around small groups of women and feel connected.

By the end of last year I had booked workshops around Australia and it felt pretty good looking at the dates in my dairy. For a free spirit like me I had a year planned out in front of me–something I have never done as I am really quite a spontaneous person. Though to me it feels like I am making my life in some way even freer as I venture out traveling and teaching. Now it's Summertime and I am well and truly into the year of traveling and teaching. Having visited Tumbarumba and Berry in January. Autumn is just around the corner.

Here are my upcoming workshop dates, hopefully I am coming near you. If you are feeling like joining in please don't hesitate to book. It would be great to see you and your friends there. I promise you will learn a lot and make friends to boot. Please contact the shop or host nearest to you for any further questions.

Blue Bird My New Hand Screen Printed Fabric

Posted on December 10, 2013 | 7 comments

Here is a design that I have been working on using photo realistic printing. I am excited to share it with you. It's a wonderful little Blue Bird which I have enlarged to be 4 times it's natural size.

It was so exciting to have a new screen to print—it had us up super early in the morning enthusiastic at the thought of printing our new design. We mixed up few different colours to experiment with. The design is printed onto a wonderful linen fabric. It is the same fabric that I have been using in my workshops and everyone is really happy with the quality. It sews well and has a wonderful handle.

Later—once the panels were dry I sewed up two of the freshly printed  Blue Bird with the Apple Blossoms into cushions, surrounding the funky birds with blue pom poms! I am so happy with the results.

North Avoca Screen Printing Workshop

Posted on November 26, 2013 | 4 comments

A month ago Joanna Way contacted me via Facebook asking me if I would like to visit Avoca, a two hour drive North of Sydney, to teach my Screen Printing Workshop. "Yes" I quickly typed in reply.

So, last Friday I drove up to Jo's fantastic house, which was built by her husband. Jo's enormous garage was the perfect venue for getting the group's creative juices flowing. I was only too happy to enjoy a day out of Sydney in the company of like-minded people. Jo invited 11 of her  friends along to the workshop including her sister Sally who never stopped smiling :)

Everyone brought along a yummy plate of food so there was an extraordinary buffet of food to feast on for lunch. The Quinoa Salad made by Sally was particularly memorable.

Of course there was cakes and slices as well!

We all had a fabulous day. Most of the ladies had not screen printed fabric before and were really enthusiastic to learn a new skilll and what they created was very impressive.

This is the lovely Jo who hosted the workshop. She printed beautiful aqua geometric shapes.

Sally printed Christmas Trees and then later another layer of red snowflakes for her Christmas table.

This little one sat all day playing with her doll! What a sweetie.

As I drove home I realised I could not have had a better day.

A huge thanks to Jo for hosting the workshop and being so warm and open to us all.

Barrington Tops our adventure

Posted on November 23, 2013 | 1 comment

We had a weeks adventure to Barrington Tops horse riding and horse grooming for a week, swimming in the river and chatting to the locals. Large vistas of empty space, rain-forests, mountains and gullies. It was wonderful.

Mr and Mrs Claus Softie Panels

Posted on November 18, 2013 | 0 comments

Christmas is nearly here. I am hosting Christmas this year with 7 children coming under 8.

Make your very own funky Mr and Mrs Clause from this craft panel in time for Christmas. There is no need for a kit as all the instructions are printed onto the fabric, making it very easy for you. Simply cut, sew and stuff.

With Christmas coming this is a great project to teach someone to sew or an easy sewing project just for you. Or maybe it will be a good present for someone in your quilt group to give them a smile.
